Exchanges, Wallets, ATM’s Debit Cards:

WARNING!
This list is for reference purposes only.
This is an incredibly fast moving space where exchanges and apps are literally popping up overnight.
I am not reccomending the use of ANY of these services! …Yet.
It is truly the wild west out there. The good, the bad and the ugly. A completely unregulated market.
Some of these Exchanges are frought with problems which I feel are happening for a number of reasons.
  • Some have set up too quickly, trying to beat the competition to get first mover advantage they have managed to create a good looking website and seemingly functional platform that is actually still full of bugs. When they realise they need to backstep in order to fix problems things can spiral out of control for them.
  • They have managed to create a good looking website allowing them to get new customers able to deposit funds but serving existing customers and withdrawl of funds is secondary.
  • Customer service takes time and resources. Most seem to automate that as much as they can which is leading to generic responses which do not really satisfy the customer queries being raised.
  • The New Technology involved in dealing with cryptocurrencies can be a big barrier to newcomers who can flood the exchange with frivilous problems, complaints, misunderstandings.
  • With the incredible rate of adoption platforms can become overwhelmed.
  • Some banks are playing funny buggers and are trying to make it hard for the exchanges to do business with them. A client (the exchange), conducting many small transactions can be a cost to the bank who tries to freeze them out, besides a threat to their business model.
  • Some operators are straight out con artists.
  • Some have undoubtedly set themselves up quickly, with dollar signs in their eyes, in order to raise investor capital but with no real intention to follow through.
  • Some software and phone apps may be, (although I have no real evidence as yet), posing as wallets or even something else completely which contain malware or trojans designed to rip you off.
  • Some formerly good, reputable operations have been hacked or had staff, even CEO’s abscond with customers money.
When it comes to money, It’s personal. Theft and fraud should attract jail time.
It would seem that this market needs to be regulated. However I fear that overbearing Government regulation in this sector will simply be an attempt to destroy the threat to the legalised criminals as well as a grab for money.
All Governments already have laws against theft and fraud and agencies such as the SEC dedicated to their enforcement. Yet this has given us little real protection from our existing financial institutions (Banks), who blatently commit crimes day after day. It is the selective and lighthearted enforcement of existing laws that is actually one of the main factors driving people into this market to begin with.
We do not need more regulations, we just need to demand that our Governments enforce existing laws.
It is early days yet. New technologies are still being developed and deployed which will make things more user friendly and secure for us. Unscruplous dealers and the bad players will eventually come out in the wash and die the death they deserve but yes, many will still get burned along the way. Dont let it be you.
Im not telling you this to scare you away from cryptos. There is a lot you can do to protect yourself. Start by reading my security guide [here]

Do not use any of these exchanges, wallets or trading platforms without first doing your own due dilligence.

Bitcointalk.org and Reddit are good resources to use. Do a google search such as “(exchange name) reviews reddit”.
Some exchanges, particularly Trading Platforms look good and function well, the problems dont actually arise until you attempt to make a withdrawl! Do a search for “withdrawl from (exchange name) reddit”.
Investigate the management.
Start with small amounts and make a few test withdrawls.
Set up accounts with a few different exchanges as back ups and alternatives.
In time I will get around to working through this evolving list and and will be in a better position to make recommendations. I will do a more through (but short) review on each site or link to a good existing review. Along the way I will delete the bad and the ugly.
